Compare · measured 7 September 2026

Profound alternatives, compared on published prices.

Profound no longer publishes a price: on 8 September 2026 its page carries the tiers by feature only, under “customized enterprise pricing”, and the 3 September archive snapshot already had no figures. Starter at $99 and Growth at $399 billed yearly were its published tiers on 21 July 2026; it quoted our client $2,250 a month for 600 prompts. Its alternatives run from Ahrefs prompt packages at $50 and Otterly Lite at $29 to Semrush Advanced at $549, and every vendor ends in a quoted tier. The differences that decide the purchase are not the headline prices. They are what each plan meters, and whether the measurement is connected to anything that fixes the page.

We sell in this category.

That is a reason to check the numbers, not to skip them. Every tier below was read from the vendor's own pricing page on 7 September 2026, and the method is described at the bottom of this page. The first-party study behind it is published on gregshevchenko.com.

Published tiers

What each vendor actually publishes.

Re-read on 7 September 2026 from each vendor's own pricing page, first read on 21 July 2026. Six of the eight served a price our fetcher could read straight from the HTML. Peec served its tier names without figures, to the HTTP client and to a browser, and Otterly's site did not answer from two routes, so those two rows keep their 21 July 2026 browser readings and say so.

Platform Published tiers, 7 September 2026 What the entry tier meters How the price was read
Profound No published price. Starter $99 · Growth $399/mo billed yearly were published on 21 Jul 2026; the page now reads "customized enterprise pricing". It quoted our client $2,250/mo for 600 prompts. Starter tracks ChatGPT only, 50 prompts and 100 agent credits a month. Growth tracks 3 answer engines and 100 prompts. Enterprise is a tailored prompt plan, up to 9 engines. HTML, 8 Sep 2026 — no figures; the 3 Sep archive snapshot already had none · pricing page
Peec.AI Starter $95 · Pro $245 · Advanced $495 (browser reading, 21 Jul 2026) Starter tracks 50 prompts on 3 models with unlimited users; Pro 150 prompts; Advanced 350 prompts across 5 countries. Enterprise is quoted. Tiers without figures on 7 Sep 2026, to the HTTP client and to a browser · pricing page
Otterly.AI Lite $29 · Standard $189 · $489 · $1,020 (browser reading, 21 Jul 2026) The base plan tracks four engines. Claude and Gemini are paid add-ons. Site did not answer from two routes on 7 Sep 2026 · pricing page
AthenaHQ Free tier ($25 credit) · Starter $295 · Enterprise custom Starter buys 3,600 credits a month, one credit per AI response, across 10 models. API access and extra credits are paid add-ons. HTML, 7 Sep 2026 · pricing page
Scrunch AI Core $250 · Enterprise custom Core covers 125 prompts, 4 LLMs, 5 site audits a month and 5 seats. Enterprise moves to 9 LLMs. HTML, 7 Sep 2026 · pricing page
Semrush · SEO + AI Search Starter $199 · Pro+ $299 · Advanced $549 (annual: $165.17 · $248.17 · $455.67) Starter tracks 50 prompts daily for one domain, bundled with 500 SEO keywords. Pro+ tracks 100 prompts, Advanced 200. The $139 SEO plan reports AI visibility without custom prompts. HTML, 7 Sep 2026 · pricing page
Ahrefs · Brand Radar AI From $199/mo · prompt packages Basic $50 · Growth $100 · Scale $250 Packages meter checks: one prompt on one platform in one location is one check. Basic is described as about 80 prompts a day on one platform. HTML, 7 Sep 2026 · pricing page
AIVO No published price (the pricing page now redirects to the consultancy home). Starter $149 · Growth $299 · Scale $549 on 21 Jul 2026. Sold as strategic consulting since the change; no tier to meter. HTML, 7 Sep 2026 · pricing page
Humanswith.ai Starter $149 · Growth $1,497 · Scale $2,997 · Outlier $4,997 · Custom quoted Starter scans 100 prompts on ChatGPT only once a month and produces one article. Plans differ by engines scanned and articles produced, up to 100 a month on Outlier. Our own pricing page, 7 September 2026

Our row is the only one where the plan produces pages as well as measuring them. The entry price is above Otterly, Ahrefs or Profound because $149 buys a scan and an article, not a dashboard, and the higher tiers buy article counts, not seats. Read it as a different product on the same shelf, not as a cheaper or dearer version of the others.

The eight, one by one

What each one is, and who it actually fits.

Read from each vendor's published pricing page on 7 September 2026. Where a tier is described below, it is the tier the vendor prints, not a quote we obtained.

Profound

The reference point

Starter tracks ChatGPT only with 50 prompts. Growth moves you to three answer engines and 100 prompts. Both carried a figure on 21 July 2026 — $99 and $399 a month billed yearly — and neither does now: the page states the tiers by feature and sends the price to a conversation. Enterprise is a tailored prompt plan of up to nine engines; our client was quoted $2,250 a month for 600 prompts. If you are pricing this category, Profound is still the reference point, but it is no longer a number you can read off a page — which is the change that matters more than the old jump from $99 to $399.

Otterly.AI

The cheapest way in, with an asterisk

Lite at $29 is the lowest published entry in the set, then Standard at $189, $489, and $1,020, as read in a browser on 21 July 2026. The asterisk is engine coverage: the base plan tracks four engines, and Claude and Gemini are paid add-ons rather than included. If either of those models matters to your category, the effective entry price is not $29. On 7 September 2026 otterly.ai did not answer our fetcher from a US route or a UAE route, so this row is dated 21 July 2026 and we do not claim it held.

Peec.AI

A conventional three-step ladder

Starter $95, Pro $245, Advanced $495 as read in a browser on 21 July 2026: the most familiar shape in the set, scaling on prompts. What the page does state in plain text on 7 September 2026 is the metering: 50, 150 and 350 prompts, three models on every self-serve tier, unlimited users, and an Enterprise tier that opens up to 12 models. The figures themselves did not render to our browser this time, so the prices carry the earlier human reading and the units carry today's machine one.

AthenaHQ

The widest entry coverage

The free tier comes with a $25 credit, then Starter at $295 buys 3,600 credits a month at one credit per AI response. What makes it interesting against Profound is not the price but the count: Starter covers ten models, where Profound's Starter covers one. If your question is "how many engines do I see for the first cheque", AthenaHQ answers it differently from everyone else on this page. API access and extra credits are add-ons on top of Starter.

Scrunch AI

One published number

Core at $250: the same number on the archived 23 June snapshot, on 21 July 2026, and on 7 September 2026, now served from scrunch.com. Core covers 125 prompts, four LLMs, five site audits a month and five seats; Enterprise moves to nine LLMs. Scrunch still publishes the least laddering in the set, which makes it simple to evaluate and hard to grow into: there is no visible step between the published plan and a conversation with sales.

AIVO

The one that left the shelf

On 21 July 2026 AIVO published Starter $149, Growth $299 and Scale $549, unchanged since May. On 7 September 2026 the pricing URL redirects to a consultancy home page with no price on it: the product is now sold as strategic AI-visibility consulting with a benchmark and an assessment. A vendor leaving the self-serve shelf is a category signal in its own right.

Semrush · SEO + AI Search

AI visibility as a line inside an SEO plan

Starter at $199 tracks 50 prompts daily for one domain and comes bundled with 500 SEO keywords; Pro+ at $299 moves to 100 prompts and Advanced at $549 to 200. Annual billing takes the same tiers to $165.17, $248.17 and $455.67. The $139 SEO plan reports AI visibility for any domain but tracks no custom prompts. If you already pay Semrush, the AI line is an upgrade, not a second vendor.

Ahrefs · Brand Radar AI

Priced per check, not per seat

Brand Radar AI starts at $199 a month and can be bought on its own. Custom prompt packages meter checks, where one prompt on one platform in one location is one check: Basic $50, Growth $100 and Scale $250 a month, with overage billed at month end. The unit is the smallest on this page, which makes the packages the easiest to size and the easiest to overrun.

Humanswith.ai

The row that produces pages

Starter $149 · Growth $1,497 · Scale $2,997 · Outlier $4,997 a month, then Custom. Every plan meters prompts and engines like the rest of the shelf, and every plan also produces articles: one a month on Starter, up to 100 a month on Outlier. Seats are unlimited on every plan. The pricing page carries the full matrix.

What we got wrong

We priced this category wrong for two months.

Until 21 July 2026 our internal sheet described Profound's agency pricing as a $399 base plus $399 for each additional client workspace. We used that structure to argue our own stack was cheaper. When we went back to check it against the published page, the per-client ladder was not there — and the Internet Archive capture nearest our May baseline is a JavaScript shell with no prices in it, so we cannot date when it changed or confirm it was ever published in that form. The structure was our construction, not their price list.

We are stating that here because it is the error most likely to have misled someone, and because it ran in our favour: a per-client ladder looks more expensive than a flat tier. Four of the five errors that audit found flattered us. The full list, with the archive links that caught them, is in the research write-up.

The practical version.

If a comparison table tells you a competitor charges per client, ask to see the page that says so. Ours could not produce one.

Why the headline price misleads

Two products at the same price can differ tenfold on the unit that matters.

Headline prices are not comparable until you read what they meter.

Three different units hide inside these tiers: engines covered, prompts tracked, and brands monitored. Two products at $295 can differ by a factor of ten on the unit that matters to you.

The entry tier is where the difference shows.

Profound Starter tracks ChatGPT only. Otterly tracks four engines on its base plan and sells Claude and Gemini as add-ons. AthenaHQ Starter covers ten models. Same shelf, different products.

01 · The self-serve band

$29 to $549, published

Everything a single brand needs to watch its own citations is published and payable by card. Otterly starts at $29, Ahrefs packages at $50, Semrush tops out at $549. For one brand and the major English engines, this band is well served.

02 · The quoted band

Every vendor ends in a conversation

Profound's Enterprise tier is tailored pricing on request, and the pattern repeats across the set. Nobody publishes what a second, fifth or tenth client costs. That is not a criticism — it is the shape of the market, and it means agency comparisons cannot be done from pricing pages.

03 · What to ask

Three questions before the demo

What does the entry tier exclude that I will need in month two? What does a second brand cost? And when the score drops, what exactly do I do next — inside your product, or somewhere else?

Where measurement stops

A score is a diagnosis. Nobody buys a diagnosis.

Every platform on this page stops at the measurement.

They report where you are cited. Changing the answer means changing pages, evidence and sources — work that happens in a different tool, on a different budget, usually by a different team.

  1. Measure which answers name you, which cite a competitor, and which cite a source you could displace.
  2. Decide which gaps are closeable this month rather than which score is lowest.
  3. Produce the pages and evidence that give an engine something to cite.
  4. Re-measure the same prompts on the same cadence, so the change is attributable.

Where we differ, and where we do not

Five differences, and one case for buying theirs.

Surface

We read the chat surface, not only the API

Our scanner queries the ChatGPT web interface through a real browser as well as the API. The two return different result sets, and a tool that only reads the API sees the smaller one.

Coverage

Regional answer engines beyond the global nine

Alongside the nine engines everyone lists, we scan the answer engines that dominate specific non-English markets. No platform on this page covers them at any tier.

Loop

The measurement creates the work

A scan ends as a ranked gap list that ContentOS turns into pages, which are published and re-scanned. Measurement, production, approval and re-measurement sit in one system.

Hosting

Self-hosted infrastructure

Client lists and query sets stay on our own infrastructure rather than a vendor cloud. For agencies whose clients ask where the data sits, that is a contractual answer, not a preference.

Metering

Metered like the rest, with the work included

Our plans meter prompts and engines too: 100 prompts on one engine at $149, 2,000 prompts on six engines at $4,997. What the tier adds is the article count, so the line item buys pages, not only a score.

Honesty

Where they are the better buy

If you need a dashboard your team logs into, a self-serve card payment, and nothing beyond the major English engines, a self-serve tier here, $199 to $295 on the pages that still print one, is a better fit than an operated workspace.

Method and limits

How these numbers were read.

On 7 September 2026 each pricing page was fetched through our parsing stack, and the served text was searched for the visible price. Six pages carried their prices in plain text: Profound, AthenaHQ, Scrunch (which now redirects to scrunch.com), Semrush (which redirects to its SEO + AI Search plans page), Ahrefs and AIVO, whose pricing URL redirects to a home page with no price on it. Peec served tier names and metering without any figure, to the HTTP client and to a rendering browser. Otterly's site did not answer from a US route or a UAE route. Those two rows keep the 21 July 2026 browser reading and are dated as such in the table. The July procedure is the one described in the first-party study linked below.

What this page does not claim.

We did not audit any of these products. We read their public pricing pages, which prove what a vendor charges and publishes, not what the software does in a client's account. Tiers change: treat every figure here as of 7 September 2026 and re-check before you buy. And we are an interested party — we sell in this category, which is why the method is written down instead of summarised.

The underlying dataset — 21 tools priced twice, with an Internet Archive cross-check that corrected five errors in our own procurement sheet — is published as first-party research on gregshevchenko.com.

Re-check this yourself in an afternoon

You do not need our tooling, and you should not take a vendor comparison — including this one — on trust. Open each shortlisted vendor's pricing page and write down two things: the exact entry price, and the exact sentence describing what that tier covers. Then pull the Internet Archive snapshot of the same page from the date your existing comparison was written, and search it for the same sentence.

If the sentence was already there, the repositioning your source described is a classification error rather than a product change. If the price differs from your notes, your notes were wrong on the day they were written — which is exactly what happened to ours. Budget about twenty minutes per vendor. For a shortlist of five, that is an afternoon, and it is the cheapest due diligence available in this category. If a vendor's tier has moved since we read it, the archive snapshot will show you the change and the date it happened — which is more than any comparison page, ours included, can promise on its own.

FAQ

Profound alternatives — common questions.

What are the alternatives to Profound in 2026?

On 7 September 2026 the published alternatives we could read were AthenaHQ with a free tier plus Starter at $295, Scrunch AI Core at $250, Semrush SEO + AI Search from $199 to $549, and Ahrefs Brand Radar AI from $199 with prompt packages from $50. Peec.AI and Otterly.AI still carry their 21 July 2026 browser readings ($95 to $495 and $29 to $1,020): on 7 September 2026 Peec served its tiers without figures and Otterly's site did not answer. AIVO no longer publishes a price. Our own plans run from $149 to $4,997 a month and produce articles as well as scans.

How much does Profound cost?

Profound no longer publishes a price. Read on 8 September 2026 the page carries the three tiers by feature only — Starter is ChatGPT with 50 prompts and 100 agent credits, Growth is three answer engines with 100 prompts and 400 credits, Enterprise is a tailored prompt plan of up to nine engines — under the line "currently available through customized enterprise pricing". The 3 September archive snapshot already had no figures, so the $99 and $399 we cite are the 21 July 2026 publication, not a current price. Profound quoted our client $2,250 a month for 600 prompts. Agents are metered in credits, and the page describes an Agency Growth plan with 400 credits per client workspace.

Which AI visibility tool is best for an agency with several clients?

None of the eight publishes a per-client price you can add up on the page. Multi-client work sits in the quoted tier for every one of them, so the honest answer is that agency pricing in this category is a conversation, not a published number. Ask each vendor what a second and a tenth client cost before you compare headline tiers.

What is the difference between measuring AI visibility and improving it?

Measurement tells you which answers name you and which cite someone else. Improving it means changing pages, evidence, and sources, then re-measuring to see whether the answer moved. Every platform on this page does the first. The gap between the two is where the work actually lives.

How many answer engines should a tool cover?

Coverage claims are not comparable until you read what the entry tier includes. Profound Starter tracks ChatGPT only; Otterly tracks four engines on its base plan with Claude and Gemini as paid add-ons; Scrunch Core covers four LLMs; AthenaHQ Starter covers ten models. Count engines at the tier you would actually buy, not on the marketing page.

Do you publish a price for this?

Yes, since September 2026: Starter $149 · Growth $1,497 · Scale $2,997 · Outlier $4,997 a month, with a quoted Custom plan above that. Every plan is metered like the tools on this page, by prompts and engines, and every plan also produces articles: one a month on Starter, up to 100 a month on Outlier. That is the difference the table cannot show in a price column.

Get the measurement and the work that follows it.

A 30-minute call that starts with your audit, not our deck.

You arrive to a per-engine citation map of your category, the gaps worth closing first, and an honest read on whether any tier fits — including a competitor's.
